THE TRANSMISSION AND RECEPTION OF THE XIAO JING IN VIETNAM BY A SURVEY OF SINO- NOM DOCUMENTARY SOURCES

Abstract

The Hieu Kinh (Xiao Jing) – classic book of Filial Piety - has an important influence on the traditional culture of China as well as on the countries belonging to the same cultural group of Chinese characters, including Vietnam. So how has the Xiao Jing been transmitted and received in Vietnam? To answer that question satisfactorily, it requires extensive research from many sources of documents, from many aspects. Within this scope, the article conducts a survey of the Sino-Nom source of documents on it from a large number of Sino-Nom archives, in order to compile for statistics on the current situation of documents, analyzing to draw out the characteristics of quantity, form, content of documents, chronology, method of transmission, the initiative in receiving, interpreting and spreading the Xiao Jing in Vietnam.
