Abstract

The topic “Human Body and Health” constitutes a central component of the Grade 1 Science and Social Studies curriculum, laying the groundwork for young learners’ foundational understanding of the human body, its functions, and basic health-care habits. Given the developmental characteristics of first-grade students, the integration of age-appropriate visual instructional materials is crucial for facilitating knowledge acquisition and retention. Within the broader movement toward digital transformation in general education, digital flashcards have emerged as an effective learning resource due to their conciseness, visual clarity, and capacity to enhance learner engagement. This study investigates the pedagogical potential of two online design platforms Canva and Wordwall for developing digital flashcards in teaching the topic “Human Body and Health.” Drawing on a synthesis of relevant theoretical perspectives and an analysis of the current use of instructional media in primary education, the study proposes a five-step design procedure and illustrates its feasibility through sample flashcard products. Findings indicate that the integration of digital tools in flashcard development not only improves the visual quality of instruction but also supports students in engaging with content more actively and effectively. The proposed procedure provides a practical reference for primary school teachers seeking to leverage digital technologies in instructional material development, in alignment with the pedagogical orientations of the 2018 General Education Curriculum.
