Abstract
The idea of constitutionalism was introduced and enthusiastically discussed in Vietnam in the late 19th century and early 20th century. However, the first studies on constitutionalism in Vietnam only appeared at the beginning of the 21st century, especially in the recent constitutional amendment. Constitutionalism is the idea of the need to limit state power in order to protect the rights of individuals and minorities against the risk of abuse of power by the majority. Constitutionalism and the rule of law have a reciprocal relationship. However, constitutionalism has not received much attention in research in our country. The article outlines the history and basic content of constitutionalism, current status and its prospects in Vietnam.
