Imprints of the folk beliefs reflected in Vietnamese fixed expressions denoting an extreme degree viewed from the perspectives of cognitive linguistics

Abstract

Folk beliefs represent human faith expressed through rituals associated with customs and traditions. The imprint of folk beliefs is reflected in language. The results of the analysis of conceptual structures manifested in fixed expressions denoting an extreme degree of characteristics or states of objects and phenomena clarifies how the Vietnamese language mirrors the cultural imprint of the worship of deities, ancestors, and the Five Elements beliefs of Vietnamese people.
