Abstract

This presentation reports the results of a study in which a group of Vietnamese teachers of English for Grade 3 – 5 children were asked to evaluate the practical application of these approaches and techniques in their teaching contexts. The survey reveals that the gap between theory and practice virtually lies in the quality of the classroom teacher and pedagogical support from the school management. This gap can be narrowed down by the school’s timely support, and with the teacher’s creativity, flexibility, passion in adapting textbooks, conducting classroom activities and communicating with young learners’ parents.
