EVALUATING SOURCE OF IN COME SPECIES OF EEL FISHES GENUS (ANGUILLA) IN WATER LAGOON OF INLAND, PHU YEN PROVINCE

Evaluating the benefits of some species of eel fish (Anguilla) in inland water lagoons, Phu Yen province. There are three species of eels in the inland water lagoons in Phu Yen province: the giant mottled eels (Flower eel, scientifically named Anguilla Marmarota Quoy and Gaimard, 1824) distributing large and appearing in all the rivers, streams, ponds, lakes and marshes; the short fin eels (Ebony eel, scientifically named A. Bicolor M'Clelland, 1844) and the sharp, pointed eels, scientifically named A. Malgumora Kaup, 1856) appearing little in the researching sections. The fundamentally appearing period of these species of eels in the raining season is from September to November. The total annual yield exploited of these three species of eels in the inland water lagoons in Phu Yen province are of 16.000 kilograms. The Glass eels from the sea appear in estuary and migrate to the lower, middle and higher sections of a river. The hydroelectric dams on the rivers are exerting huge impacts to the biodiversity of these eel fish. In particular, this limits the distribution and removes the eel species, influencing the yields exploited at the river sections. Some solutions should be implemented to bring up and logically stock the young eel fish to keep the sustainable development of these eel fish resources in the inland water lagoons in Phu Yen province.
