Training students of English Teacher Education following competence-based approach at Phu Yen University

Abstract

Following the orientations of renovation on general education by the 8th Conference Resolution of the Party’s Central Executive Committee (11th Session) of “Transition from knowledge-providing training method to comprehensive development of competences and qualifications for learners”, training students following competence-based approach is considered a correct orientation of higher education institutes in the time of integration. The article clarifies the concepts of competences, competence-based teaching-learning and the competences required by an English teacher. Simultaneously, it also mentions and discusses how the training processes for students of English Teacher Education are being implemented following competence-based approach at Phu Yen University at present.
