Abstract

The shoreline changes in the Da Rang estuary area from 2004 to 2019 were assessed in detail by the technique of shoreline extraction based on two indexes (AWEI - Automatic Water Extract Index and NDWI - Normalization Differentiation Water Index) from multi-time remote sensing data (ASTER, Landsat 5-TM, Rapid-Eye, Formosat 2 and SPOT 5) as well as the technique of calculating shortline changes (DSAS - Digital Shoreline Analysis System). The depositional trend on both sides of the estuary in the Southwest monsoon and the erosion in the Northeast monsoon were identified. In addition, the river-bed inside Da Rang estuary tends to be deviated to the North. In recent years, the river-bed in this area has been remarkably expanded and some of the sand dunes have almost completely disappeared.
