RECIRCULATORY AQUACULTURE SYSTEM (RAS) – TRENDS FOR SUSTAINABLE AQUACULTURE
Abstract
Faced with the severe impacts of climate change, water pollution, disease outbreaks, and rampant antibiotic use, an aquaculture recirculatory system with innovative technology to solve these problems is really needed. Recirculatory aquaculture system (RAS) is designed in terms of resource constraints, environmental sustainability benefits - delivering high production efficiency and significant economic benefits. Water conservation, biosecurity and high production are key features of this technology, it can be set up almost anywhere, regardless of local conditions. However, high investment costs, poor management, lack of knowledge about technology are the problems that are being faced. This article aims to provide insights and information about the recirculating aquaculture system, its potential for development to bring about a revolution in the field of aquaculture.
