Abstract

Not only an outstanding economy, Japan is also known for its literature with great contributions to humanity. In Vietnam, Japanese literary works have been translated since very early, and more have yet been introduced. Alongside studies on Japanese literature, they have opened door to Vietnamese readers to better understanding of Japanese people and culture. This is also an important premise that enables close ties between two countries, especially favored by the progressive growth of Vietnam-Japan cooperation. The article provides an overview of translated Japanese literary works in Vietnam, the situation of studies and issues raised in conferences on Japanese literature before and after the Doi Moi (Reform) in 1986.
