Conflict in Sudan now: Causes, Consequences and Role of the International Community

On April 15, 2023, the conflict between Sudan’s two main security forces, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), broke out and has lasted until now. It stems from the struggle for powersince the two forcesjointly overthrewdictator Omar al-Bashir in 2019, has resulted in thousands of deaths and injuries, millions of people forced to flee the country, leading to a profound humanitarian disaster that could spread to neighboring countries and impact international actors. This article clarifies the causes, developments and consequences of the conflict, thereby, assessing the role of the international community in resolving the conflict and its prospects.
