Abstract

For Khmer people, Buddhism is the traditional religion, and has long been integrated into ethnic culture, becoming a core element of Khmer national culture. The pagoda has long become a symbol of the «soul» of the Khmer people. People often identify Khmer people as followers of Theravada Buddhism. However, in reality, not all Khmer people in the Southwest follow Theravada Buddhism, historically and in recent times. Due to many different reasons, some Khmer people have joined other religions present in the Southern region. The article clarifies the conversion situation of Khmer people change from Theravada to Catholic and Protestantism in recent times.
