Abstract

The article examines the opportunities and challenges in preserving and developing the traditional zeng (brocade) weaving craft of the Ta Oi people in A Luoi district, Thua Thien Hue province. Field research shows that in the context of globalization and the growing awareness of the cultural heritage value, zeng weaving has significant potential for growth thanks to supportive policies, distinctive cultural and artistic values, strong community cohesion, as well as its connection to sustainable cultural tourism. However, this craft faces obstacles such as market competition, limited investment capital, technology and distribution channels. Furthermore, the lack of next generations of weavers and low income are affecting the process of preserving traditional knowledge and protecting the copyright of textile products.
