Abstract

The 2017/18 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Global Report showcases increased participation of women in business. Vietnam is among countries with a relatively high proportion of businesswomen. Nevertheless, most of them have merely been involved in individual enterprises. In the corporate sector, the percentage of female managers accounts for as little as one-third compared with males. Womenowned enterprises tend to be small-scale and concentrated in the service sector. Women encounter more difficulties than men in running a business, partly resulting from their competence. Hence, more supportive policies are needed to improve women’s skills and knowledge as well as mitigate the above-mentioned obstacles.
