Abstract

The relationship between religion and the state, has historically been, and continues to be one of the most difficult issues to resolve. In modern society, the principles of secularism which are commonly adopted by the states in dealing with religion-related issues are to ensure citizens’ freedom of belief and religion, maintain separation between temporal and spiritual powers and that all religions are equal before the law. From the perspective of constitutional secularism, secular states can be divided into four groups, namely established religion, civil religion, religious pluralism and strict form of secularism.
