Abstract

In order to restore the livelihood of vulnerable communities affected by the development projects, both the State’s and international organizations’ support policies have so far biasedly focused on the goal of how to improve their natural, physical, and financial capitals, etc. Meanwhile, social capital - an intangible (also infinite) resource in sustainable development, has not been yet paid proper attention. The paper clarifies the role of “social capital” in relation to “livelihood development” and how its decline has affected the improvement of the livelihoods of Ca dong ethnic people in resettlement area. The research outcome can be used as reference in policy formulation and planning for livelihood restoration and stabilization of project affected communities in Vietnam today.
