Abstract

The welfare state covers a set of social programs designed to ensure economic security for all citizens to prevent or avoid inherent risks in life such as unemployment, poverty, disability and old age. The American welfare state was formed and developed according to the political, economic, and social changes of the country. While being considered a liberal model, the US welfare state has different structures and characteristics from that of the European countries. Its effectiveness also fails to meet expectations.
