About the Traditional Beliefs of the Hmong People in Meo Vac District, Ha Giang Province (Case Studies in Xin Cai, Sung Tra, and Thuong Phung Communes)

Abstract

The Hmong people in Meo Vac district, Ha Giang province of Vietnam has always maintained their traditional religious practices, worshipping Gods, their
ancestors, and different ghosts. However, after the 1980s, some new religious phenomena appeared in this area. Besides practising their traditional beliefs, a part of the Hmong people mainly converted to Protestantism and San sư khẹ tọ new religious movements. The article highlights the changes in the traditional beliefs of the Hmong people in Meo Vac district, Ha Giang province (case studies in Xin Cai, Sung Tra, and Thuong Phung communes) and indicates reasons for this change.
