Jante and Its Influence on the Cultural Life in the Nordic Countries

The Nordic region is considered successful by several world indicators, and is also a community with strong cohesion, high social capital, and trust. The typical Nordic way of life keeps simple and collectivist and discourages the expression of individual superiority or elitism. From the perspective of traditional history, Nordic lifestyle and culture are the crystallization and mixing of many factors, including the strong influence of Jante. The paper analyzes the formation and influence of Jante on the cultural life in the Nordic countries, thereby drawing some relevant implications.
