On standardization of information-library terminology in Vietnamese

Abstract

A library used to operate with archiving function; then expanded to documentation function; and in recent years, has been associated with information analysis, processing, archiving, searching and dissemination. Major resources of the libraries now are not only limited to books. Significant developments have been seen in all areas related to library operation: from target groups, contents, operational means and ways ... to the information-library connectivity, a series of services which are friendlier to users. Due to different perceptions and practices, the understanding of new jargons as well as changes to the existing terms is inconsistent, causing debates. This article attempts to prove that standardization of information-library terminology is one of the most desperately urgent tasks of not only the linguists circle. DOI = 10.3125/ssirev.v2i1.1223
