Abstract

Recently, the population of the five ethnicities with very small population in Vietnam (Ơ-đu, Brâu, Rơ-măm, Pu Péo and Si La) has increased remarkably, avoiding the risk of “perish” as the information published in some mass media. The increase of inter-ethnic marriages together with the increase of income, living standard, and health and education quality has made contribution to physical and mental improvement of people. Yet, the existence of poverty situation, early marriage, the maintenance of some inappropriate customs and habits have made the population size and quality of these ethnicities problematic. Based on a general review of existing studies and fieldwork findings, in this article, it is expected to make more clearly the remained problems and challenges for population and development of the five ethnicities with very small population in Vietnam at present.
