Cross-border Ethnic Relations in Khmer People’s Economic Activities in Tinh Bien Town, An Giang Province

Abstract
Khmer people mainly reside in the southwestern provinces of Vietnam and
maintain strong cross-border relations with their ethnic group in Cambodia. In the Vietnam -
Cambodia border areas of these provinces, due to their proximity, the relationship between
the Khmer people on both sides of the border is evident in many fields, such as the economy,
society, and culture. Based on some published documents and fieldwork data from 2022 to
2024 in An Phu border ward and Van Giao inland commune of Tinh Bien border town, An
Giang province, this article clarifies the current cross-border ethnic relations of the Khmer
people at the research sites, focusing on economic activities such as trading goods and
livestock, employment, and renting land for agricultural production.
