Livelihood Changes of People in Bach Xa Village, Hoang Dong Commune, Duy Tien District, Ha Nam Province under Impacts of Industrialization and Urbanization

Abstract

Based on the practical research in Bach Xa village, Hoang Dong commune, Duy Tien district, Ha Nam province, this writing focuses on making clear the livelihood change of people under impacts of industrialization and urbanization. The process of land withdrawal of the State for building of industrial zones in this locality has made majority of people lose their traditional productive materials and occupations. Yet, with their active and sensitive nature, they quickly have adapted and transformed their livelihoods from agriculture to non-agricultural jobs susch as working hire, trading, making services, etc. This process of transformation has created opportunities for the people to improve their income and living standards, but also to arise a number of shortcomings such as the unstableness of new livelihood activities, the gab between rich and poor, reduction of family and community cohesion as well as increasing environmental pollution.
