Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive and irreversible lung condition that causes damage to the airways. The prevalence of COPD is on the rise, and those affected often experience frequent shortness of breath and an increased risk of rehospitalization, leading to a decreased quality of life. While there are various factors that contribute to the severity of COPD, nutrition is often overlooked in treatment facilities. This article highlights the significant impact of nutrition on COPD in two ways. Firstly, COPD can lead to malnutrition due to increased energy consumption and decreased food intake. Secondly, malnutrition can worsen the severity of COPD. This relationship is particularly evident when nutritional interventions are implemented alongside clinical treatments for COPD.
