Abstract

This study focuses on integrating the urban heritage of Hanoi from 1873-1902 into modern planning. By referencing a previous study on the urban identity of Hanoi during the period of 1873-1902 and based on a comparative analysis of two cities, Bath and Istanbul, this research proposes strategies for successfully blending the preservation of traditional identity with modern development. In the period from 1873-1902, Hanoi developed a unique urban form characterized by tight connections and distinctive highlights. Currently, the city has significant potential by merging this heritage, not only to establish its identity but also to lead in sustainable urban development solutions. A major challenge is striking a balance between conservation and meeting modern demands. This research suggests the creation of diverse functions and a well-connected infrastructure that aligns with the trend of sustainable planning.
