Abstract

The classification of solid waste collection at the Van Lang University is ineffective. Solid waste is collected in mixture and transported for landfill purposes. This study aimed to develop a model of waste segregation and recycling park for campus 3 of Van Lang University so as to maximize the amount of recyclable garbage. The research team surveyed 421 students about their perceptions using a combination of Google forms and in-person interviews. Additionally, the compositions and quantity of solid waste of Van Lang University were determined. The findings indicated that the majority of Van Lang students (91,2%) recognized the importance of separating solid waste at source. The total amount of domestic solid waste of Van Lang was 2006 kg/day with diverse compositions, among which biodegradable waste (35.85%), paper (32.53%) and plastic (25.49%) are majority components. Based on the baseline investigation, a model of waste segregation and recycling park was proposed and designed in detailed, which was aligned with the sustainable development goal 9
