Abstract

The paper clarifies the provisions of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the obligation to exchange views that parties have to fulfil before resorting to the compulsory dispute settlement mechanism and analyses some relevant cases decided by international courts or tribunals in reality.
