International investment dispute settlement by adjudication under the European Union free trade agreements

Abstract

The European Union has actively participated in the rounds of negotiation of  the global free trade agreements (FTA) with the expectation to play an important role in promoting global trade as well as developing trade rules. Dispute settlement mechanism is a core issue of interests under the FTAs. The paper analyses and clarifies some main issues relating to international investment dispute settlement under the EU law and international investment dispute settlement by adjudication under the European Union free trade agreements.
