The United Nations and the issue of sustainable development

Abstract

As a “centre for harmonizing the actions”, the United Nations has promoted its role in international cooperation activities in maintaining international peace and security, in settling economic and social problems and promoting human rights. Meanwhile, sustainable development covering economic, environmental and human rights aspects is one of the urgent issues of humanity in the 21st century. This article analyzes the role of the United Nations in sustainable development, thereby assessing the achievements and challenges which the United Nations may face in the future.
