Abstract

During the French colonial period, law-making activities in Vietnam had a major turning point. After thousands of years of being influenced by Chinese law, during this time Vietnam has gradually absorbed elements of Western legal culture. By analysing the characteristics of the codification of civil law during the French colonial period, the article presents the transformation in the history of Vietnamese legislation and highlights its values and influences on the development of Vietnamese civil law in the following periods
