Survey and evaluation of the use of medical plants and remedies of the Bru- Van Kieu ethnic community in Quang Ninh districts - Quang Binh province

The work of preserving, exploiting and sustainably developing genetic resources and experience in using medicinal plants and remedies of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam is highly necessary. The Bru-Van Kieu ethnic group is one of the oldest ethnic groups in the Truong Son region. In addition to their ethnic identity and long-standing customs, their knowledge of traditional medicinal practices is extremely rich. Quang Ninh district is one of the districts with a large proportion of Bru-Van Kieu ethnic group in Quang Binh province. Therefore, preserving knowledge related to the use of medicinal plants and folk remedies is an essential task. The results of the investigation and collection of medicinal plants and remedies in the district show that in two communes dominated by the Bru-Van Kieu ethnic group, there are 29 folk remedies that have been passed down and commonly used, mainly for the treatment of liver, kidney, and bones and joints diseases. A total of 25 medicinal plant species
commonly used in folk medicine, exhibiting diverse life forms, with herbaceous and woody plants accounting for the highest proportion, at 60% and 32% respectively.
