Applying politeness strategies in communication

Abstract

Politeness is one of the issues of increasing concern in pragmatics and sociolinguistics. In communication activities, speech rituals are often not only responsible for providing information, but also play a role in attracting, establishing, maintaining, and strengthening relationships between participants. In order to communicate effectively, communicators need to consider and pay attention to the choice of politeness strategies. This article presents some basic theories of politeness, some popular politeness strategies and proposes some ways to apply politenes strategies in the communication.
