Abstract

Capacitive compensation has been widely used in power systems at different voltage levels. To ensure safe and successful operations of the devices, unfavorable transient issues associated with capacitor switching must be thoroughly evaluated. This paper presents a simulation method based on EMTP software to analyze overvoltage due to capacitor switching and propose a mitigation solution. The author also presents experimental results confirming the effectiveness of the solution.
