Developing descriptive writing ability for 4th-grade students

Abstract

Writing paragraphs is one of the main components of the 2018 General Education Program for the Vietnamese Language subject in the 4th grade. Developing descriptive writing skills for 4th-grade students contributes to achieving educational goals and establishes an important foundation for writing essays in subsequent grades. This article examines several issues surrounding the content of descriptive writing in the Vietnamese Language subject for 4th graders and the current state of descriptive writing among 4th-grade students at several elementary schools in Viet Tri (Phu Tho). From this, we propose several measures to develop descriptive writing skills to help students overcome limitations, ensuring that each of their writings reflects their unique and creative perspectives. Developing descriptive writing skills for 4th-grade students plays a crucial role in creating a solid foundation for descriptive writing in the following grades.
