Factors Affecting the Decision to Enroll in a Master‘s Program in Principles and Methods in English Language Education

Abstract

The 2018 education reform has brought about the requirement for Vietnamese EFL teachers to improve their English teaching skills. This article reports on the results of an investigation into the factors influencing the decision of English teachers to pursue a Master’s program in Principles and Methods in English Language Education. The research subjects were 241 Principles and Methods in English Language Education graduate students at a university in Vietnam, of whom 130 had graduated and 111 were studying. The study used quantitative analysis methods. Findings show that 15 factors affect the decision to enroll in the Master’s program, of which 5 are the most important. This article proposes continuing to improve the Master’s training program in Principles and Methods in English Language Education to meet the learning needs of learners and ensure quality training.
