HE IMPACTS OF USING CONTENT-BASED INSTRUCTION ON LEARNERS’ INTRINSIC READING MOTIVATION

Abstract

During language learning process, reading is a pivotal activity for learners to accumulate
new vocabulary and background knowledge. To encourage students to be self-motivated readers, it is
suggested that teachers should should nurture learners’ intrinsic reading motivation, rather than extrinsic
motivation. One of the strategies to attain this objective in reading classes is implementing Content-based
Instruction, which places a sharp focus on equipping students with comprehension of text contents.
