Abstract

This article focuses on the application of active teaching techniques to improve the effectiveness
of history lessons in high schools, in accordance with the requirements of the new general education
program. Based on the analysis of some basic concepts of active and effective teaching and history
lessons, the article has pointed out the important significance of applying active teaching techniques to
improve the effectiveness of history lessons in high schools. In particular, the article focuses on clarifying
how to apply three specific teaching techniques: tablecloth, think-pair-share and 3-2-1 through detailed
illustrative examples from lesson 5: “Concept of civilization. Some Eastern civilizations in the ancient and
medieval period” (belonging to topic 3, History 10, book series Connecting knowledge with life). These
specific examples aim to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the techniques in promoting
students’ abilities and qualities, helping them to be more proactive and interested in the subject.
