This paper presents a teaching measure aimed at developing high school students’ mathematical
problem-solving competency through the topic “Conditional Probability” in the Grade 12 Mathematics
curriculum, implemented on the basis of real-life situations. Based on the expected learning outcomes of
the 2018 General Education Curriculum in Mathematics and the specific characteristics of probability
content, the author proposes a five-step instructional process oriented toward competency development,
illustrated with practical situations in fields such as medicine, quality control, and traffic security.
Initial pedagogical experiments show that the use of real-life situations not only helps students gain a
deeper understanding of the nature of conditional probability but also contributes to the formation and
development of components of mathematical problem-solving competency
