Comparing the verb “喝/drink” in Chinese and Vietnamese

Abstract: Verbs for “Drinking” are part of verbs for eating and drinking in Chinese and Vietnamese. Searching and consulting Chinese - Vietnamese dictionaries and related documents, the researcher listed 10 verbs for “Drinking” in Vietnamese and 8 in Chinese. Comparing the word meanings (including original and abstract meanings), the researcher found similarities and differences in verbs for “Drinking” in Chinese and Vietnamese. At the same time, after examining “positive verbs” (commonly used verbs) and “negative verbs” (not commonly used verbs), the researcher found that some former “positive verbs” have currently become “negative verbs”; or some”positive verbs” in Chinese are “negative verbs” in Vietnamese, etc.
