Abstract

This journal article explores the integration of writing portfolios as a multifaceted evaluation tool in university-level English essay writing classes. Traditional assessment methods, often criticized for their limitations in capturing the diverse and evolving nature of students’ writing abilities, prompt a reconsideration of evaluation strategies. Writing portfolios, consisting of a curated collection of diverse writing samples compiled over a semester, emerge as a powerful means of providing a holistic assessment of students’ skills. The article delves into the benefits, challenges, and best practices associated with the implementation of writing portfolios in university English writing courses, emphasizing their potential to enhance both teaching and learning outcomes.
