Abstract

Abstract: The study was to investigate the difficultites perceived by English teacher teachers in their implementing speaking activities among non-major freshmen. The findings of this research revealed that teachers encountered a number of challenges while they organized speaking activities in their speaking lessons. The biggest hindrance was lack of students’ interest and motivation to get involved in speaking tasks designed by teachers. In addition, different levels of students’ English language proficiency were percieived by teachers as one of the most problematic situation during their speaking lesson. This led to the dominance of one student over others in a group. From the main findings of the study, some recommendations were given to the teachers for overcoming difficulties in conducting speaking activities and continuously maintain students’ interest in speaking lessons.
