Abstract

This article examines the issue of enhancing the natural flow in students’ essays when expressing cause-effect relationships without heavy reliance on connectives. While connectives are essential for coherence, the overuse of them results in monotonous and unnatural essays. To address this, the article emphasizes the significance of diversifying the ways to connect ideas, including the use of relative clauses and reduced relative clauses with causal verbs. Its objective is to provide methods that enhance the smoothness and naturalness of students’ essays, enabling them to produce engaging and coherent pieces with a seamless flow of thoughts.
