Abstract

In the 2018 Math Curriculum, third-grade students are introduced to fractions for the first time. However, the topic of fraction is officially taught in the fourth-grade curriculum and completed in the fifth grade. Problem-solving ability in mathematics is one of the five component abilities of mathematical proficiency specificed in the 2018 Math Curriculum. This paper discusses the process of designing exercises on the topic of fractions aimed at developing mathematical problem-solving skills and presents an illustrative example.
