Abstract

APTIS is a test that evaluates foreigners' English language proficiency. This test has just been widely applied in Vietnam so it is quite unfamiliar to some groups of students. Like other English tests, APTIS includes 4 skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, in which speaking skill is the skill that students often get the lowest score. Therefore, this research article aims to find difficulties and solutions for students when participating in the APTIS speaking exam. The survey method was applied on 100 students participating in the APTIS exam in January 2024. In addition, the interview method was also applied on 5 students to learn more deeply about this issue. Research results have revealed that students encounter many difficulties when participating in the APTIS exam, especially the speaking exam. The solutions suggested by students are a valuable resource to help future generations of APTIS students achieve higher results in the APTIS speaking test.
