English is widely used around the world as a foreign language, second language, official language, or native language; along with that, English is being widely taught and studied in Vietnam as a foreign language. Writing in English (when it is a second language - L2) is always difficult for second language learners. From studying English writing skills and difficulties in learning to write English in an academic style; The current status of learning to write academic English according to the VSTEP level B1 exam format of students attending a graduate course at the Military Technical Academy... the article proposes some solutions to improve English writing skills according to the format VSTEP level B1 written exam for students attending graduate courses at the Military Technical Academy. Research results show that the most common writing difficulties that learners encounter are mainly problems with conventions, grammar, and difficulties with verb tenses, word choice, and word meanings.
