ABSTRACT
From the theoretical bases of reading comprehension strategies, the paper presents the research on the
effects of teaching English reading strategies to the first year English major students at Tay Bac University in
raising their awareness and reading comprehension ability. Results showed that teaching reading strategies
could help to raise students’ awareness of using reading strategies to understand and answer questions about
texts, which contributes to their reading comprehension ability.
