In the panorama of rapid technological advancement, AI-powered technologies are in the academia’s intense spotlight as they bring great prospects to learning, but also threats to academic integrity. This paper aims to explore the key concepts of AI, academic integrity, and the potential benefits and risks of students’ use of AI-powered tools in higher education settings. It outlines the fundamental values of academic integrity, including honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage which are essential for preserving the credibility and quality of higher education. The paper also emphasizes the need for higher education institutions to take proactive steps in raising students’ awareness of academic integrity and the appropriate use of AI-powered tools in their studies.
