Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of a picture-based writing method in enhancing fourthgrade EFL students’ sentence-writing skills in Vietnam. Using a mixed-methods, quasi-experimental design with 68 participants over eight weeks, the research compared an experimental group receiving picture-based instruction with a control group taught traditionally. Data from tests, questionnaires, and interviews showed that the experimental group achieved significantly higher gains in writing scores. Students reported that the method improved idea generation, vocabulary, and confidence. Overall,picture-based writing proved to be an effective and engaging approach for developing young learners’ English writing skills.
