Standardization of hydraulic binder materials – achivements and orientation of the Vietnam Institute for Building Materials

Abstract

This paper provides an overview of recent standardization activities in the field of building materials conducted under the leadership of the Vietnam Institute for Building Materials (VIBM). The focus is placed on the group of hydraulic binders, encompassing standards for masonry cement, Composite Portland cement, ground limestone additive, ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS), fly ash, and blended hydraulic binders. The formulation and adoption of these standards have significantly contributed to the improvement and harmonization of the Vietnamese national standards system (TCVN) with European Standards (EN). These efforts align with the objectives of technological innovation, efficient resource utilization, energy conservation, and CO₂ emission reduction. The outcomes of this work provide a solid basis for advancing the development of green and sustainable building materials in Vietnam.
