Analyzing and proposing measures to reduce the impacts of occupational diseases in the construction industry

Abstract

Occupational diseases in the construction industry greatly affect the health of workers and the working environment, thereby affecting the quality of work, project implementation progress and project quality. This study presents the identification of occupational diseases affecting workers' health, the likelihood of disease occurrence and the causes of occupational diseases. A total of 34 occupational diseases and 30 causes have been identified, reviewed from previous research literature and from in-depth interviews with experts with many years of experience in the construction field in Vietnam. Male. Two survey questionnaires including a survey to assess the impact of occupational diseases on workers' health and the likelihood of workers' disease in the built environment; and a survey to assess the influence of causes of occupational diseases in construction, sent to about 250 individuals working in the construction field. This got back 201 valid responses for data analysis. Occupational diseases and causes of occupational diseases in construction are divided into 5 groups of diseases, including: Musculoskeletal diseases; Respiratory diseases; Skin Diseases; Cardiovascular disease; Other Diseases. Multivariable regression model shows that cardiovascular and other diseases are not suitable, musculoskeletal diseases; respiratory diseases; Dermatological diseases have a significant and negative impact on workers' health. These findings contribute a piece of knowledge in analyzing the impact of occupational diseases in the construction industry in Vietnam, and more fundamentally, these findings have improved the understanding for investors, Project manager, supervision consultant, construction unit about occupational diseases in construction as well as the causes of diseases.
